Having Confidence is Half-Done!

SHUTIJA

Dear 18 year old Shutija,

First, I think you'll be proud of your future self, just keep going. I am seeing you make your way through this path that is so new to you. But your strength is your dedication and sincerity. You'll make your way.

You know, when you first heard of the "Designer babies" concept and got so excited that biology and biotechnology started to become your dream; it all seemed so fascinating right? And yes, it is fascinating.

"
But one thing I would wish for you to know is that science is so much more than what you are seeing and learning in the textbooks."

Practical aspects of science differ from the theoretical ones. No, I am not trying to mislead you here. Rather, I want to guide you through the reality; and in a really positive way if not anything else.

So let me tell you a little more about skill based learning. Try getting involved in more hands-on work, practice different techniques, use every opportunity to use all lab instruments and learn a little about the instrument optimization and usage. Work on your fundamental knowledge about each technique, always keep questioning - what and why and how. This will help you in the long run because knowing things will make you confident.

Oh yes, Confidence. This is one of the aspects that you need to practice often and improve majorly on. Because I believe that having confidence is half done. I have seen it now. And believe me, you have it in you. You just have to believe more in yourself and worry less about your insecurities. You are on the right path, dear.

So, I hope you do well and wish you the best of everything. You are a star.

Just keep exploring and believe in your dreams.

From Biological Sciences to Critical Studies of Science: A Journey

ANJANA

"This collage aims to present the elements of my journey from being a trained biologist to pursuing research in critical science studies presently. By including details from laboratory work that are seldom overlooked, and juxtaposing them with elements of critical science studies that constitute my current motivation, I aim to give a glimpse into what compelled me to undergo this shift."
